[ MAJOR SPOILERS ] there is a twist at the end of the movie that Hartley (The Rock) is criminal/romantic partners with The Bishop (Gal Godot) and has been running a con on Booth (Ryan Reynolds) the whole movie. Booth was just starting to learn to trust someone when he was double-crossed. After some more manipulation, the three are working together by the end of the film, so interpretations of whether this is a sad ending will vary.
