When Johnny Boy gets shot in the neck near the end the blood spurts out but the camera doesn’t linger on it. Aside from the very last scene and the shooting scene earlier in the film there is no gore

Charlie has a habit of self harming by holding his hand near a flame, normally to remind himself about Hell after doing something he considers to be sinful. Apparently a priest taught him to do it. When one of his friends witnesses it he calls him crazy

Johnny Boy is violent and unpredictable. He’s more a vandal than really violent though. He plays around with firecrackers and a gun

Johnny Boy has a kind of breakdown because of his debts and starts shouting and crying. Throughout the film he’s clearly mentally ill and behaves in erratic and self destructive ways. Charlie has some serious Catholic guilt and is often very tense. He trembles sometimes and puts his finger in an open flame to calm himself when he thinks he has sinned

One could argue that the way Johnny Boy behaves is suicide as he deliberately disrespects people who he knows could kill him. There’s also a brief scene of someone describing how someone else killed himself. The man is shown putting a gun in his mouth and the camera cuts away as he pulls the trigger

There’s a scene when Charlie gets drunk where the camera seems to be mounted on his chest pointing towards his face and it moves with him, which made me quite dizzy. Throughout the film, there are shots of characters taken from behind with a handheld camera, sometimes with the cameraman running. There’s also shaky home-video footage at the beginning

There’s a pretty long scene of all the main characters being homophobic towards a caricature of a gay man. This film was made in 1973 and that was seen as okay back then

There is one sex scene but no penetration is shown, only a man on top of a woman and a quick cut. There is a voiceover however, describing a sexual experience (ejaculation).

Someone gets shot several times in the torso and in the last scene Johnny Boy gets shot in the neck. Someone with a gun in their mouth is also briefly shown and there’s a tense scene of Johnny Boy on a roof behaving irresponsibly with a gun, then brandishing it later on as well.
