Psych
TV Show • 2006 • Comedy
ReportThanks to his police officer father's efforts, Shawn Spencer spent his childhood developing a keen eye for detail (and a lasting dislike of his dad). Years later, Shawn's frequent tips to the police lead to him being falsely accused of a crime he solved. Now, Shawn has no choice but to use his abilities to perpetuate his cover story: psychic crime-solving powers, all the while dragging his best friend, his dad, and the police along for the ride.

Flashbacks show the relationship between child Shawn and his dad being emotionally unhealthy, though whether it actually crosses the line into abuse is debatable. It was bad enough to leave them estranged once Shawn reached adulthood.

You could say Shawn was emotionally/phycologically abused growing up, and his relationship with his father slowly grows stronger and healthier over the course of the show.
Juliet is betrayed repeatedly by her father, but by the end of the episode he is invited to her birthday party.

Lloyd gaslights Henry throughout the episode by trying to make him think that he (Lloyd) disclosed all the necessary information and his plans to Henry, when he absolutely did not. Lloyd is not malicious and he knows that Henry won’t be easily manipulated so it doesn’t seem like he’s really trying that hard. It seems like Lloyd is just lazily going through the motions of denying that he lied to Henry. This whole thing is played very lightly/for laughs and despite Lloyd’s many irritating flaws, he’s quite likable.

Like previous commenter said, there's an entire episode about a sea lion getting murdered. The episode begins at the animal's funeral, and it's thought to have been an accident, but it's later revealed that the sea lion was shot by criminals who thought it was a person spying on them.

Apologies, I can't recall the exact episode, but In one episode, there's a conversation where Shawn and Gus talk about how as children their parents lied that their pets went to live in a sanctuary, instead of saying they died.

No actual cannibalism, but the gang thinks that Lassie has been abducted by Bigfoot and Gus smells barbecue so they assume it’s Lassie being cooked. They come upon the campfire where the meat is being roasted and multiple characters mention that “Lassie” smells good, seems like “he” would taste good, etc. Juliet is the only one who seems legitimately disturbed/upset over this, though it’s pretty clear that they would never actually become cannibals. Lassie is revealed to be alive and well and the meat is revealed to be venison.

TerrorTurtle
In multiple episodes, people are said to have "multiple personality disorder". The entire show's use of this disorder is extremely stereotypical and almost completely false. It all boils down to one person having a handful of people in their head, and a couple times one of them is a murderer. I believe there is also the idea that they take medication to get the voices to go away? If this is DID (or "multiple personality disorder"), then that is false as no medical prescriptions can "make the voices go away", as DID is a splitting of the brain and is more than just a simple medical fix. However, if they were referring to Schizophrenia, I believe there may be some medications to help for that. It is important to note that DID and Schizophrenia are not the same thing.
It is also important to note that under most circumstances, there are no murderous alters (the correct term for "personalities") in a DID person's head. There are some that are violent, but that is because DID forms due to intense childhood trauma and the alter's violence is the person's brain's only possible escape for the intense situation. These violent alters would not just go around randomly killing people. People with DID have the same, perhaps even less of a chance to become a murderer as any other individual. (I plan to rewatch the show to provide more specific details such as what episodes feature DID misrepresentation and clear up the medication controversy, but I may forget.)

Much of this episode is filmed from the POV of the various people working on their documentary, so there’s lots of looking into the camera as if to break the fourth wall. The characters aren’t actually acknowledging the audience or anything, they’re just looking either at the camera that’s filming them or the person holding the camera. So yes, the fourth wall is broken but not in the traditional sense.

Not specifically "misgendered", but there's currently no category for transphobia, so...
In S7 E7, "Deez Nups", there is a trans sex worker (played by a cis actress), and multiple jokes are made at the expense of her genitalia, at cis men being surprised and grossed out by her genitalia, and at the timbre of her voice.

Disagree with the other comment. This character is also shown to have a one sided obsessive crush on Gus, so it's easy to assume the same thing happened to the deceased boss. With lyrics such as "I'd try to make plans, you'd postpone" and "I just cut you an extra set of my keys", it seems his advances were unwanted and unhealthy.

Light, most notably about Shawn. Actor James Roday gains weight through the seasons and there are a few comments directed at his character.

A trans woman sex worker is portrayed very stereotypically. There is pretty blatant transphobia. Lots of references to her “dong” and her voice is deliberately low (maybe even fake) for shock value. They end up ditching her in front of a church which is about as subtle as a knife. There is also a black woman who is recently out of prison and is pretty stereotypical as well. She is the “sassy and aggressive” black woman who is the life of the party.

season 2 episode 2 romani and indigenous slur.
Season 7 episode 1 insensitive indigenous joke.

In a few episodes an adult woman is shown to be attracted to elderly men. In one episode a teenage boy tries to hit on Juliet, but is shut down every time.
Edit: the other comment may be referring to season 5 episode 12, in which a 17 year old and an adult woman have a secret relationship.

It's revealed that *spoiler* Jordan is Thea's brother. It's stated that they never slept together, however.

In "True Grits", there's a surprising and sudden scene where another car crashes into the side of the characters's car. It happens when Juliet and Carlton have Carl arrested in the back seat and are on the phone with Shawn.
No one is gravely injured, but are seen picking glass out of small cuts and using an ice pack to the head afterwards.
