Weird implications that a possessed character is in love with an alien brain (which has hearts drawn around its enclosure), but it’s not really brought up

I wouldn't describe it as abuse, but the opening scene is set during a party and the morning after, and alcohol is prominent throughout.

In an end credits scene, a character is retrained in a chair while being questioned and it is implied he will be imprisoned for an indefinite amount of time.

one of the main characters refers to someone's jaeger as a toy while threatening to destroy it and sell it for scrap. the jaeger pilot insists it is not a toy.

a character is under mind control for a decade in a pretty blatant (and, according to people who have seen it, insensitive) allegory for addiction, but i've also seen it compared to severe mental illness, particularly depression or eating disorders. (i haven't seen it because i don't want to ruin the first movie for myself. i do know many many people who've seen pru, though)

The jaegers, giant robots built by military for the sole purpose of fighting monsters, are now used on the civilians as extensions of cops complete with tazers used against "rogue" jaegers built from stolen parts. Though it is possible they use them on citizens outside of jaegers as well, it is never shown

A character with BPD is corrupted/possessed (which is also treated as addiction) and is the main villain of the story

the cockpit of one of the jaegers is decently small. it's not explicitly claustrophobic.

A character implied to be gay (confirmed by the director and actor) is replaced by aliens controlling his brain and it’s implied the original version of himself is gone, so take away what you will from that

One of the Jaegers is named Gypsy Avenger. Gypsy is a potentially offensive term for the Romani people, but the name is a reference to the fallen Gypsy Danger from the first film and not meant in any kind of prejudicial context.
