It's stated in some of the interludes about Locke's past that he used rabbit blood in his schemes on a number of occasions. I don't recall there being explicit mention of a pet or companion animal dying, or the killing of rabbits for that matters, but bear this in mind if you're sensitive to this trigger.

I would say that there is an appropriate amount of gore for the grimdark world that Lynch has constructed. To me it never felt like "gore for the sake of gore". If you're sensitive to violence, torture, etc. then I would definitely recommend pausing before giving this one a read.

This world is not at all friendly to children. Expect scenes of children being bought and sold as slaves, forced to do dangerous work that results in several deaths, viciously threatened, bullied, hanged, murdered, and more.
