There is no dogs physically in the film, however there is a brief mention of prior dog. When Noah & Otto are chatting in the cabin (shortly after Otto had found him on their couch & nearly shot him), Noah recalls how his son got infected after chasing their dog which had run off, & when Otto asks "You have a dog?", Noah responds "Had". No details are given, not even the dog's name. You could even choose to believe that they simply never found the dog again if that helps.

Don't show them getting shot but they are hanging from his belt dead plus 28 minutes into movie they show them skinned very visual and gory. The guy is shown chopping it up with cleaver. Looks realistic
