Depends on what you define as abusive. There’s no physical abuse, but Bernadette’s parents are stated no not be respectful or understanding of her gender and transition. She states that they stopped speaking to her after she had her surgery.

In the first scene, a drag queen has an object thrown at her after she finishes performing.
Slightly later on, as she’s running to the phone booth, in the background there’s a woman that appears to be being attacked/mugged by some men, but it’s not very visible or focused on.

In a flashback, an 'uncle' tries to sexually assault a child while in the bathtub but the boy gets revenge on him and is seen laughing about this as an adult. One of the other characters, a trans woman, has a flashback to her childhood where she was still treated like a boy and mentions how her parents never spoke to her again after gender affirming surgery, so the assumption is she didn't have a happy childhood.

One of the main characters finds some pills in the luggage of another main character. He isn't shown taking them but his behaviour afterwards is attributed to taking drugs. Also a main character takes hormones and is shown with a cereal bowl full of them.

When in Cooper Pedy (or however the town is called), Adam gets in drag and heads to a gathering of some men. One of them is interested in Adam, not realizing he’s a drag queen, and begins flirting, but gets angry when he realizes. He and his friends chase and corner Adam, and he punches him in the jaw. When Adam collapses (still conscious), he instructs his friends to hold Adam down and pull his legs apart. This is when others intervene.
Adam is later shown with a bruised corner of the mouth and wearing a cloth to hold his jaw shut, and he cannot talk.

Yes, there is a flashback to when Adam is younger, and his uncle in the bathtub tries to get Adam to touch him inappropriately. Adam pretends like he’s complying but tricks him and runs off.
Later on in the movie, Adam is also chased by some men who then corner him, and hold him down while pulling his legs apart. Nothing happens as someone intervenes.

There are no jokes about it, but Adam is assaulted twice but with nothing ever fully happening. Adam tells the story of when he was first assaulted by his uncle, which is shown in a flashback, and in it, he pulled the plug on the bath his uncle was in, getting his genitals stuck in the drain. It then cuts back to present where Adam and Mitz/Tick are laughing about it. To me, it is clear that they are not laughing about the potential assault, but rather how Adam tricked his uncle and escaped it.

During a drinking contest between Bernadette and Shirl, Shirl overdrinks, says that she is seeing things, then slumps over/passes out.
Bernadette faints when realizing Tick has a son, hitting her head, but doesn’t seem to be unconscious, or at least for very long.
Tick faints at the end of his number when he sees his son is in the crowd (Marion lied and said he wouldn’t be at the show). He falls into the crowd and hits his nose. After, he’s shown in the dressing room, unconscious, with his friends trying to wake him up, which he soon does.

The word “tr*nny” is used in a lighthearted manner by Adam (one of the drag queens). I’m sorry but I can’t recall if it’s ever used in a derogatory way. There is also misgendering and the drag queens + trans woman are called “freaks”. The term “transsexual” is used, not in a derogatory way, but I know that some take issue with that term over “transgender”.

The film is about drag queens and they meet with various people who are hateful towards them or just confused, as well as being self deprecating about what they do when unsure how they will be recieved, so there are some jokes but the film is on the side of the queer characters.

It is a movie about drag queens and a trans woman making their way through rural parts of Australia. Naturally, they encounter some people who don’t understand or respect LGBTQ+ identities. However, they do meet some people who are accepting and the movie is in favor of queerness and queer/trans identities.
