Three kids, Max, Neil and Nikki, spent the summer vacation at a dysfunctional campsite called 'Camp Campbell' which is currently in the hands the camp counselors, the overly cheerful David and the less optimistic Gwen.
This tv show contains 53 potentially triggering events.
Max being revealed to have basically been abandoned at the camp, his parents are very neglectful, couldn't even put his last name on his application form, they definitely wanted rid of him.
In an episode where David is in the wilderness he has a wild he bonds with and that wolf is killed very graphically. There is also the second episode where the “camp mascot” gets eaten by another animal
In S1:E10, Neil shoves a string of handkerchiefs down Nikki's throat, and once he finishes, she seems to be fine but starts choking and foaming at the mouth seconds later. This scene is somewhat long and lasts until basically the end of the episode, so avoid the rest of the episode if this may be triggering.
No, but there is a slight scare of Nikki wanting to be set to flames in the episode Nikki's Last Day on Earth (she never dies, this is just the episode about her starting her first period)
Though not destroyed, Max's stuffed bear, Mr. Honeynuts, is dug up from under a mound of dirt and it has two rips and appears to have a missing button eye, but Max is not sad because of this.
Please be wary of the episode "Campfire Tales" because that episode is full of "scary stories" (even though only one is meant to actually be scary). There are definitely moments when I jumped during that one.
There is a kid who is a part of "clown camp" but he is only mentioned in one episode and has no speaking lines. He is purely there for a couple laughs and barely even resembles a true clown.
In S1:E10, a character casts a trick on Max, causing him to feel sick to his stomach and to vomit a string of handkerchiefs along with other random items. There is no actual vomit, but the audio can be triggering.
In S2:E6, a character vomits when the relative of another character is introduced to the cast. It's offscreen, but the audio can be triggering.
In S2:E7, a character vomits 10 seconds into the episode. He attempts to vomit into a bucket, but he wears a sorta-like astronaut suit, and so vomits in his helmet. The clip is brief but can be triggering visually and audio-wise.
In S4:E12, after the intro, David heads to a shore, where he begins to vomit out water four times. There is no actual vomit (though it is closely resembled), but the audio can be triggering.
In S4:E13, a character vomits after a very detailed close-up of someone's face is shown. The clip is brief but can be triggering visually and audio-wise.
No, but in the episode "St. Campbell's Day" Mr. Campbell tells a news reporter that the kids of the camp have cancer, but it is purely a lie. Specifically, he says that Max has leukemia and Space Kid has "a really messed up face. I'm not sure what kind of cancer that is," as a joke/reference towards the movie and novel Wonder.
Camp Campbell says that Dolph (a kid based on hitler) has aspergers (outdated term and made worse considering its origins and dolph's character - hans asperger was involved with nazis, dolph is based on hitler, etc). Honestly this put me off the series completely, which sucks because I used to love it.
At the beginning of the episode "Attack of the Nurfs", during an arts and crafts activity, David compares Max to famous artist Vincent van Gogh. Max responds "I definitely want to kill myself like Van Gogh".
In the Christmas special, the four wall is broken as the characters start to tell the viewers about climate change but not much happens after that and the episode is avoidable. Just skip to the next episode after Nikki hugs Max and Neil at the end
In the episode "Jermy Fartz", Jermy dresses as a bundle of sticks and Max calls him a "fa..." before trailing off. At the end of the episode, Nikki figures out what Max had nearly said and says it herself, but is cut off mid-word as the episode ends.
In one episode, a kid that is based on Hitler is said to have aspergers (this term is kinda outdated too). This turned me off the show completely which sucks because I used to love this show. He also does get treated like crap by the other characters like in one episode, Max manipulates him. Seriously Neil would've been a much better representation of neurodivergent characters (Sure he does fit a few stereotypes but he has development and is more likable and I found him relatable)
While it's not used there is anti black racism present especially with the character "Bonquisha" being portrayed as a stereotypical trashy black woman.
one of the main child characters is based off of hitler, even sharing the name. it’s nothing serious but it’s a running joke, although it could definitely be offensive to some
There is an episode (and a character) that references Hitler (episode: "Reigny Day", character: Dolph) and a Jewish character, Neil, so there are a few "jokes" made from this. For example, in "Cult Camp" Dolph is possessed and goes to put Neil in a "gas chamber" and Neil verbally takes note of this. Also in the episode "The Order of the Sparrow" David makes a few racist remarks, specifically towards Indian culture, and the main character, Max, is Indian. Though he does not say if he is offended by this, he does point out that it is racist.
There's an episode where Quartermaster reunites with his sister who've had a terrible relationship for years. But when David tries to help them get along, well... No one is comfortable.
Spoilers for “FRIENDS LIKE THESE”
it’s a bit bittersweet, if you want a good send off to the year long “hiatus”. it sure hit hard for me, because the show is over. i wouldn’t miss watching it. the kids are sent home from the bus, and david closes up camp, and gwen leaves.
At the end of an episode, the main three characters crash what appears to be a crop duster through the roof of a building. Nobody seems to be even slightly harmed, and it’s not really a major plot point being passed off as a joke. Regardless, it’s there.
