Calling it cheating is not accurate, it’s more of a love triangle.
A protagonist breaks things off with his original love interest, who he had never really made any sort of commitment to, by announcing a new relationship. I’m not sure whether I’d call it a joke because of the way the scene is written, but it may still be triggering: guy 1 says to guy 2 “I wish you were a girl,” at which point guy 2 puts on lipstick and a dress.
