The Fairly OddParents is an American animated television series created by Butch Hartman for Nickelodeon. The series revolves around Timmy Turner, a 10-year old boy who is granted two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda. The series started out as cartoon segments that ran from September 4, 1998 to March 23, 2001 on Oh Yeah! Cartoons and was later picked up as a series. The series is produced by Frederator Studios and, as of season 6, Billionfold, Inc. For the first four seasons, it was distributed outside the United States by the Canadian company, Nelvana International.
Having aired for more than 16 years, The Fairly OddParents is the longest-running fantasy TV series in American television history, and currently stands as Nickelodeon's second longest-running animated series (behind SpongeBob SquarePants).
This tv show contains 64 potentially triggering events.
Ehhh. Many fans describe Timmy's parents as neglectful, and they're not wrong. Some episodes have neglectful behavior, such as not feeding a child so he must eat out of the trash, played for laughs.
Somewhat related - in S9E13 “Finding Emo” Cosmo disguises himself as a little girl (Missy) that Timmy has a crush on. While disguised, Cosmo askes to kiss Timmy on the lips, which Timmy says “yes” to because he doesn’t know it’s a disguise. Timmy is then grossed out after finding out he actually kissed Cosmo, and then laughed at. This is supposed to be played for laughs.
No, but a running gag centers around a female character harassing the protagonist and even attempting to kiss him when he clearly dislikes the attention. Another episode revolves around a female character slowly becoming more obsessed with the protagonist.
Some people are comically buried alive but always turn out fine. There are also instances of quicksand throughout the series which they turn out to be fine later on
The closest thing I can remember is Mr. Crocker moving in erratic ways while saying "Fairy godparents!", but I don't consider it a seizure by any means.
One episode revolves around the protagonist getting his tonsils removed; he is clearly unwilling and frightened, and also blatantly mistreated by the staff, all played for laughs.
Mr. Crocker is strongly implied to suffer from some sort of mental illness. He also isn't afraid to use violence to achieve his selfish goals in some episodes. Vicky can also count
No one is canonically autistic in the series ,but characters are often mocked for deviating from neurotypical behavior such as Mr. Crocker. Also Butch Hartman’s IRL beliefs
Crocker freaking out over "FAIRY GOD PARENTS" can be seen as a meltdown of sorts if you wanna YMMV it, as can Timmy's frequent moments of panic. If anyone knows/remembers any moments more akin to actual meltdowns, please lmk!
In a PG raterd version of "If I ever do X, shoot me." Timmy unironically imitates Crocker's "FAIRY GOD PARENTS" shtick before immediately saying "If I ever do that again, hit me." It'll probably go over a young child's head, but the implications are still there.
No actual slurs, but at least one episode has implicit homophobia in it: All women and men on Earth are separated from each other and as a result, Cupid almost dies because there's "no true love" left on the planet. The idea that mlm and wlw people exist isn't considered or addressed.
No, but a major episode plays a male character being pregnant for laughs, and another has the (presumably cis) protagonist gender-bent against his will. The series creator is notoriously dismissive of and disrespectful towards the LGBT+ community, and this is occasionally reflected in his work.
Cupid almost dies in one episode because there's no more "true love." Woth true love in this instance being described as a man and a woman in a romantic relationship. Considering the type of person Butch Hartman is, it's pribably intentional.
(UPDATED) Asian stereotype in the fairy idol episode (though this is based on a real person who sang “She Bang” on American Idol). There’s a Persian stereotype who talks gibberish in one of the episodes with Norm the Genie. In the episode where Timmy is inside a computer, there’s a Chinese stereotype with big teeth and closed eyes at a Chinese restaurant. In the episode with the laughing gas, Chinese people are shown with not only big teeth and closed eyes, but conical straw hats
Some females (Tooth Fairy, Princess Mandy, etc) wear revealing clothes and the mother is seen in a swimsuit at one point, but that's about it excluding intended innuendo.
