Set in the mystery-shrouded Peak District, the series follows two mismatched young detectives: affable local Ben Cooper and guarded newcomer Diane Fry. Thrown together to investigate a string of mysterious deaths they must learn to work together to get results. As their personal lives begin to intertwine, a unique friendship begins to form... but it won't always be easy.
There's a legend of the Black Dog (would have been in the 1600's) and the supposed burial site and such in this episode. There are multiple pet dogs seen and/or referenced, but none die. One was involved in some altercation offscreen, mentioned at some point, but is fine.
The man with sore hands talks about sick chickens and that they 'hurried along' the process around 36:26 of episode 2. You don't see it happen / it happened earlier offscreen before our characters arrive. End of mentions around 37:45. Same folks talk about what to do with their sheep. Seems they're closing their farm and getting rid of all of the animals. Probably any scene with the farmer guys.
There is an amputated hand mentioned / body without one is investigated, and a drawing of a hand or two in a book, but nothing happens in the show as we watch.
By the end of the episode, we learn Emma ran away and is safe now, but the parents are present throughout the episode and are obsessed with getting her back. Unfortunately, it looks like a different daughter wasn't so lucky.
Later on, there's mention of a lab explosion that took someone's hand, and they bled out. No explicit mention of fire or anything but this is the closest item on here for such a thing.
I recall a character of interest who is said to be a drug user. Also, the mother is found passed out with a broken glass of wine, so quite likely she's an alcoholic.
There's a church in town, a cross necklace found on a body, and there are symbols carved or painted on a wall and such. There's also some superstition and mention of a curse, "evil" being present, sin, etc.
