*Minor spoilers* Season 1, Episode 2 - After the explosion of the house, Kayce runs over and you hear a dog whimpering then crawl past injured. You don't see or hear it again so unknown if it survived.
Later in the same episode a semi is driving down the road towards Kayce in his truck with a wolf/coyote on the road, he beeps but it doesn't slow and runs over the wolf/coyote. You see the impact and the aftermath.
The creator and crew have made it very clear that no animals have been harmed during the filming. There are multiple articles detailing how carefully the “animal actors” are treated.
In the first episode alone, the opening scene, a house is badly injured and trapped by an accident and the main character has to shoot him. Horrifying but Humane and he shows great care to express that he wouldn't want this.
Just started watching - opening scene of s1ep1 is the main character talks to his horse moments before shooting it (after being shown its graphic injuries from subsequent road accident), numerous cattle/bison deaths, a couple of fish (from when the boys go fishing), shown a dead elk about to be devoured by wolves (though scene doesn't go that far), episode 2 a graphic scene of a coyote getting mowed down by a truck, a brief glimpse of an injured dog from a house explosion... somehow I think every episode will have animal deaths... don't know if I can continue...
I don’t know if this considered “animal abuse” but cattle are branded in a few episodes and it’s kinda hard to watch. Along with cattle getting roped and tied.
S1ep3; youngster Tate fights a large rattlesnake in a dry drainpipe when he is told to hide there by his father - when his father returns he is triumphantly holding the dead snake (having killed it before it could bite him)
Season 3 , a main female character is attacked by 2 men in her office. It’s very violent and one man does attempt to rape her. She is violently beaten, but her own words save her from the sexual part. It’s tough to watch.
Beth eluded to cheating on a man because it will “break generations,” she says what’s the point in breaking a single man. Refers to him being married with three children
Season 1 - A major character is revealed to have had colon cancer but the tumor was removed. In the season 2 premiere, the diagnosis is addressed again and it is confirmed the character no longer has cancer
Season 3 - a wrangler makes a joke about someone having cancer and that they have a week to live
Season 4 - a character jokes that she wants another character to die off “ass cancer” and in a later episode a character says she doesn’t want her father to get prostate cancer
I don’t really know what to call it. At one point Beth describes her diet as smoking until lunch then drinking at dinner. It’s been a while since I’ve watched, but I think that could be triggering to anyone who has issues with dieting and food, from what I can recall.
I believe theres a purposeful wreck caused by the protagonist in an attempt to push a van off of the road to stop them. A gun fight ensues shortly after
