Won't You Be My Neighbor

Movie • 2018 • Documentary

Report
Fred Rogers used puppets and play to explore complex social issues: race, disability, equality and tragedy, helping form the American concept of childhood. He spoke directly to children and they responded enthusiastically. Yet today, his impact is unclear. Have we lived up to Fred's ideal of good neighbors?

Mr. Rogers points out a dead fish in his aquarium and explains characteristics of a dead fish. The fish is shown lying on the aquarium gravels, but it is already dead and is not sown dying. Mr. Rogers scoops the fish out of the aquarium with a net and empties it onto a cloth, which is shown and zoomed in on. Mr. Rogers is later shown burying the fish.

Debatable, the movie ends with Mr. Roger's funeral, what happened at his funeral and a rendition of the Won't You Be My Neighbor" song.
