Season 1: Religious abuse is a major topic. For example, young Cora is made to blame herself for her sister's chronic illness because she is a "sinner" who accepted chocolate as a gift. There's also emotional and verbal abuse. Season 2: A boy is raised in a cult that contains abuse, though it is unclear how much he is exposed to as a victim or witness. Vague discussion about Ambrose's mother being abusive and neglectful toward him when he was young.

S1E7: A man verbally abuses his ex-girlfriend. S2E5: A man is roleplaying with Vera, who is standing in as his ex-wife. The man slams her to the ground, yelling at her, pounding his fist on the floor, and spitting on her.

S1E7: While Cora is under the influence of cocaine, she believes she is having sex with JD, when she is actually being assaulted by another man. S2E5: A woman is pinned to the floor while a man degrades her and yells "Do you wanna feel me?" No sexual assault on screen, though the imagery plus information revealed in later episodes suggest it could have occurred. S2E6: Mention of sexual assault and a resulting pregnancy. S2E8: On-screen rape of a teenager.

^ The person who said that is mistaken. No Ped in season one. The incident they're talking about is when two sisters are talking about the only man they know, their father (Since they're highly religious and boys aren't allowed, they are curious about male parts) It is not implied at any point that the Father is abusing them sexually or in any way displaying any form of ped. They mention the incident like they saw him on the way to the shower or something similar. It may as well have not been mentioned, as there's no point to them saying that as far as the story goes.

Some people may not consider it excessive, but with an abundance of caution, I'll put this here. There is quite a bit of blood, a gory stabbing, mutilation of the inner arm, a close up on someone being shot in the head, and a loud crunch of someone's sternum and/or ribs being broken.

* Emetophobe review *

S2E1 - skip from about minute 9 to minute 11. A woman coughs a lot and then v*s. You then see the stuff on the floor and on her for several shots. It is NOT "brief" like the other contributor said. Even looking away and covering my ears, the glimpses I got were quite triggering. There are also very brief but graphic flashbacks of it in S2:E3, when Julian is being interviewed by the psychologist.

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING ⚠️

If you need to skip the scene in episode 1, but still want to know what happens (it's very important), the parents die. The man chokes and falls while showering. The woman gets s* and convulses. The boy backs away, looking terrified.
