While the first Die Hard kept the action and characters as grounded in realism as possible for an ‘80s action film, this sequel blasts into the ‘90s with force, taking the original’s formula and cranking up the excesses in the all the best ways possible. You can practically hear the producers behind the scenes yelling, “Can we add more? Make it bigger! Make it louder!! More dead bodies! More explosions! More! More!! More!!!”
All the action scenes, camera zooms, film scoring, and acting are over-the-top, yet the film still works very well, thanks to the anchoring from another wholesome, endearing, “every-man” performance by Bruce Willis as John McClane.
Those supporting the gun violence and blood/gore triggers will once again need to prepare themselves for this one. And anyone with a fear of flying or plane troubles will need to check the timestamps prior to viewing this one.
Synopsis
Off-duty cop John McClane is gripped with a feeling of déjà vu when, on a snowy Christmas Eve in the nation’s capital, terrorists seize a major international airport, holding thousands of holiday travelers hostage. Renegade military commandos led by a murderous rogue officer plot to rescue a drug lord from justice and are prepared for every contingency except one: McClane’s smart-mouthed heroics.
