While the player character claims he doesn't smoke, these can still be equipped in the secondary slot, with the description "Highly addictive and hazardous to your health." Whilst these are equipped, the character's health slowly drains over time, but steadies the player's aim in first person mode and reveals laser tripwires at certain locations. The player can also pick up tablets of the fictional drug "Pentazamin" which, when consumed, temporarily steadies the player's aim in first person mode with no health penalty, though this effect has to be renewed by consuming another Pentazamin every so often while aiming.

In areas of the game with large amounts of water, sea-lice are seen scattering around parts of the floor. Using a can of compressed coolant fluid, you can force the bugs to move away temporarily, but crawling on these sea-lice will result in one getting into your ration stash, and will slowly eat them away until you either run out, or the sea-lice is shaken off by rolling.
