No animals die or are harmed in this film. There is a brief interrogation scene where an antagonist grabs the main character's dog by its collar and it yelps briefly, but other than that, the animal is not harmed otherwise. There is even a scene where the main character takes the dog to a Sit and Stay to be taken care of while she'll be gone.
There is a main character who is shown to be in multiple toxic relationships. The movie doesn't necessarily show gaslighting, but it does show that this character has been emotionally abused and made to feel guilty about rational emotional responses.
One of the main female characters has past experiences of domestic violence with her husband, including a scene where he mocks a black eye he's given her by poking at it and laughing. She is not seen being physically abused onscreen but it is heavily understood.
About 23 minutes in Brian Tyree Henry’s character is holding Viola Davis’ characters dog and right after she says, “listen I don’t have your money why don’t you just go make more?” He stand up aggressively holding the dog by its collar and you hear the dog whine. It lasts 5-10 seconds and then he gives her back the dog. She holds him protectively until BTH’s character leaves.
One of the first things that happens is a few men dying as the car they're in explodes in a huge fireball, though we don't see inside the car, nor their bodies afterwards.
There is a very clear scene where the main character blackmails a man for cheating on his wife with his niece. There are even photographs. You will see her in a car with a balding man before the pictures are shown.
It's a question of a perspective. I think it's still a happy" ending even if it's not overly joyful and happy, because it still ends "well" for the protagonists.
This is a violent film in nature. There is a lot of gang-related violence involving gun, knives and fist fights. There is a lot of blood/gore present within.
