Although there is a darkly comedic scene where Mari's mother gets mad at her and approaches threateningly wielding a soup ladle.

It's arguably (emphasis on arguably!) implied that Yuzuki's mom Tamiko is abusive - she's a rather stern stage mom, who also happens to be Yuzuki's manager, and has Yuzuki dress up like a J-pop idol to maintain a false image, had her work at a young age (thus unintentionally isolating her from any potential friends), has her go to Antarctica (which Yuzuki initially wants no part of), makes a jab at Hinata when Hinata suggests taking Yuzuki's place for the trip, and even lets Yuzuki's new friends go to Antarctica on the sole basis that they convince Yuzuki to go.
However, aside from what's mentioned above, we have a shot of Tamiko giving Yuzuki a big hug when she returns to Japan, showing that Tamiko genuinely loves her. In addition, her jab at Hinata is likely because Yuzuki's idol work is much easier said than done, and she was defending her daughter's work.

The main cast get severely seasick during the journey from Australia to Antarctica. The camera movement at this point of the series may also produce motion sickness in viewers.

Some of Shirase and Yuzuki's behaviour could be interpreted as such.

When introducing the girls to the ship crew, the person in charge makes a joke about the girls being underage and the crew members better not "try anything".

Although there is a scene where the characters go out onto the deck of the ship in high seas in the Antarctic Ocean, something that would put them at incredible danger of doing so in real life.
