Shirase's mother went missing in Antarctica, and is later confirmed to be dead. The climax of the show revolves around Shirase coming to terms with this.

The main cast get severely seasick during the journey from Australia to Antarctica. The camera movement at this point of the series may also produce motion sickness in viewers.

Some of Shirase and Yuzuki's behaviour could be interpreted as such.

But when they are seasick during the voyage to Antarctica, the characters are advised to eat even if they don't have an appetite.

Although during the scenes where characters are seasick, the camera moves around slowly, which may produce motion sickness in viewers.

When introducing the girls to the ship crew, the person in charge makes a joke about the girls being underage and the crew members better not "try anything".

Shirase's mother is dead, and was heavily implied to be in a lesbian relationship with another character.

Mari Tamaki (the protagonist), before boarding the ship to Antarctica, is jokingly berated by her friends for having possibly gained weight/being almost too heavy for the large scale they were weighing themselves with (as there’s a max body+personal items weight limit for each person on the ship; the scene shows each girl using the scale with their things they brought along). Mari is rendered self-conscious by it. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the show, but I remember something like that happening and it was mildly upsetting.

There is a referece of past Mobbing, though, when Hinatas former classmates call her.

Although there is a scene where the characters go out onto the deck of the ship in high seas in the Antarctic Ocean, something that would put them at incredible danger of doing so in real life.

Although there is a darkly comedic scene where Mari's mother gets mad at her and approaches threateningly wielding a soup ladle.

It's arguably (emphasis on arguably!) implied that Yuzuki's mom Tamiko is abusive - she's a rather stern stage mom, who also happens to be Yuzuki's manager, and has Yuzuki dress up like a J-pop idol to maintain a false image, had her work at a young age (thus unintentionally isolating her from any potential friends), has her go to Antarctica (which Yuzuki initially wants no part of), makes a jab at Hinata when Hinata suggests taking Yuzuki's place for the trip, and even lets Yuzuki's new friends go to Antarctica on the sole basis that they convince Yuzuki to go. However, aside from what's mentioned above, we have a shot of Tamiko giving Yuzuki a big hug when she returns to Japan, showing that Tamiko genuinely loves her. In addition, her jab at Hinata is likely because Yuzuki's idol work is much easier said than done, and she was defending her daughter's work.
