There's some degree of psychological violence from a man towards his wife in the form of a controlling/domineering tone/behaviour that, for instance, makes her say "Randy won't let me [go to college]". He turns into a loving and supportive husband (for good, apparently) at the drop of a hat the first time she says to him that he shouldn't treat her like that. Highly unrealistic.
