A horse is shown fleeing a burning barn, his back on fire. Other horses are shown tethered in the barn. One of the protagonists attempts to save them, but fails. A horse is later attacked by a bear off-screen, sustaining a significant face injury. He is presumably seen by a veterinarian, as he is shown with a clean bandage in a town, but the injury eventually becomes infected. We see his rider trying to coax him into eating before apologizing to him and hugging him. He is finally found missing and discovered lying dead some way away from their camp. Body is shown.

No parents die during the film. The characters do, however, talk about how one of them killed their abusive alcoholic father. His brother has a nightmare in which a man is chopping up a dead body, but it is unclear who the man or the deceased are. Their mother is later shown to be alive and well.

There are a couple sudden sounds which might qualify as accidental jumpscares. The film is not intended to be frightening/thrilling.

He's not Black, and he's not the first to die, but the only POC does die, and it's because of a white man's actions.

It depends on your interpretation. There seem to be heavy romantic overtones to a male-male friendship, and both men die, due to the actions of a presumably straight man.
