This movie is a "modern" retelling of the "Rape of the Sabine Women". While no explicit rape or explicit mentions happen in the film, there are many moments where it is implied. The "7 brides" are kidnapped with the intent to marry (in which consumation is implied in the film) the "7 brothers". The story "Rape of the Sabine Women" is directly referenced both in Millie reading the story to the young women who were taken in the evenings (1 of the 2 books she owns) and in the song "Sobbin Women" sung by the eldest brother as he encourages the younger brothers to follow the example set to get their desired brides.
