The stranger-than-fiction account of a prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015, which spawned a massive manhunt for two convicted murderers who were aided in their escape by a married female prison employee with whom they both became sexually entangled.
A dog is briefly in danger in the opening scene of episode 8, “Part 7, II.” The dog approaches a cabin with its owner where the two escapees are hiding. The dog is not threatened or harmed. No other stressful situations involving animals.
(Spoilers) Emotional neglect and a very messed up custody situation wherein a kid (~5 years) is told by his mom that his biological father doesn’t want to be his dad anymore. That’s bad enough but made worse by the fact that it is very much not true. His father was the more loving and emotionally available parent.
There is one point in E4 where a husband is being a bit too aggressive trying to get intimate with his wife and she swats him a few times to get him off her. It’s not super intense but thought it was worth mentioning.
Some of the COs are sympathetic but even the likeable ones are portrayed as lazy at best and corrupt at worst.
In E6 there’s a cop character who is portrayed as a “good” cop and an overall good person. (Spoilers) He gets killed in the line of duty. The show does try to make you like him as a person and as a cop so that you’ll feel sad when he dies. I wouldn’t really say it crosses into copaganda, though.
A character gaslights her husband whenever he asks questions about her relationship with the prison inmates she is having an affair with. She deflects these inquiries by belittling him and/or questioning his own faithfulness.
There’s some questionable/borderline situations so marking yes to be safe.
1) A CO has sex with an inmate multiple times. It’s consensual but there’s obviously a pretty significant power imbalance. She’s also a bit forceful with him at one point while he’s clearly expressed that he’s uncomfortable.
2) (Mild Spoilers) Later, that same woman is manipulated by another inmate into a sexual relationship under false pretenses (he is using her to obtain tools for an escape attempt).
3) The same character’s husband is pretty pushy about trying to have sex with her in episode 4.
Episode 4 (TW: descriptions of finger mutilation) A character has been doing grueling work that wears on their hands and some of their skin falls off. They peel the loose skin off thier finger.
In E6 you hear, but do not see, a finger being broken.
Someone’s head is slammed into a toilet pretty hard. There’s some blood but there’s no indication, neither auditory nor visually, that the skull was fractured.
Yes. Many, many times. (minor spoilers) The plot revolves around a married CO who is having an affair with two inmates. (slightly bigger spoilers) There’s also a flashback in E6 where she cheats on her ex husband with the guy she’s married to in the present day.
Mentioned briefly after the prison fight breaks out that an inmate is (TW) p*****g all over himself,” not shown.
Later, in E7, someone drinks from a stream and gets diarrhea. Heavy implication they didn’t make it to a toilet, the character is shown (still clothed) grunting and clenching thier buttocks. Later, another character has to clean up after the accident and it’s pretty graphic.
theres a scene in S1E5 where Tilly is in the hospital and a nurse puts an IV into her arm, its very brief and happens right after the nurse asks her name and date of birth
Episode 4, about 26 minutes. A very claustrophobic scene with a character going into in an 18” tunnel. It’s so tight that the character has a panic attack. It was hard to watch even for my spouse who doesn’t easily get clausterphobia.
a few instances of the F slur, mostly directed at the inmates by the guards, and a couple of other insults that are aimed to belittle gay men specifically
Technically no, but there’s some very incestuous role play between two unrelated adults (with a significant age gap and power imbalance) during sex. Marking yes because it could be very triggering for incest survivors. (TW: descriptions of incest role play) An older woman makes her partner, a younger man, call her “mommy” and say he’s her “little boy” and there’s a whole breastfeeding play thing. We know that the character who instigates this role play has a real son about the same age as her partner so it’s extra uncomfortable to watch.
(Spoilers) In horrifying detail in E6 around 13 or 14 minutes. Note, the timing is not exact but I can’t bring myself to rewind it. It’s just after the police officer is shot multiple times.
