A father accidentally shoots his young adult son with a shotgun. Another child (a ten year old) nearly dies, first from dehydration and then his sister nearly shoots him rather than them being burned alive.
There is a plot point near the end of the book where it was revealed that Kelton (a main character) once used a drone to look through another main character’s window. It happened before the events of the books but when he’s found out the emotions from what happened are still very strong.
There is one very disturbing scene during a snapshot (an optional side chapter that would be easy to skip because it is written in a different font) in which an underage friend of one of the protagonists is implied to have sex with an older man in exchange for water. She does this to give to her borderline neglectfully irresponsible mother.
In another scene, an underage protagonist is threatened to be dragged away and raped by two adult men. They come close to taking her but are killed.
In a final, less disturbing scene near the beginning, a character tries to suck the water out of a protagonist’s mouth in an uncomfortable way.
It is worth noting that Alyssa, the only protagonist who is female and underage, is the one I was talking about in all of these instances.
