Virginia and Tony, a father and daughter living in Manhattan, find themselves in a parallel universe where Snow White, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood are struggling to maintain order. Their kingdoms have been fragmented by trolls, giants and goblins.

This aired pre-9/11 and takes place partly in Manhatten, so the twin towers are prominent in the skyline. The opening sequence includes buildings transforming and towers (I think the actual twin towers?) sliding downward and/or disappearing in a puff of smoke in order to turn the city into a fantasy kingdom.
It's supposed to be whimsical and magical, it's not meant to look like anything is actually being destroyed, but I found it disconcerting, and I'm not usually sensitive to these kinds of images.
<spoilers> through flashbacks and talking with her father, Virginia (and the audience) learn that Virginia's mother tried to drown her in the bathtub as a small child.
Early in the show Wolf and Virginia have a discussion about Virginia being "addicted" to magic shoes. She is reluctant to give them up and acts angry and irrational when Wolf attempts to get them away feom her.
Tony (Virginia's dad) is implied to be an alcoholic several times: drinking on the job and hiding it from his boss, as well as wishing for infinite beer.
Wolf and the shepherdesses share sexual comments / innuendo. <spoilers> Wolf and Virginia play "hide and seek" and when he catches her they kiss and roll around in the grass. When the return Wolf's tail is out of his pants.
