One man who worked with dogs during the war talks about dogs who died, as well as mentioning someone suggesting training dogs to go up to zombies with bombs strapped to them. Another man talks about puppies dying.
Two of the interviewed characters are disabled: one is blind, and the other is a wheelchair user. They both discuss ableist treatment received from others. The blind person has a lot of internalized ableism about being useless and a burden. The presumably abled characters make casually ableist statements quite a bit, calling the zombies “cripples,” for example.
Multiple characters refer disparagingly to soldiers with PTSD, specifically voicing a belief that they’re pathetic and how no one wants to end up like them
There's no organised dog fighting, but there are dogs that get in fights. Working (military) dogs are featured in a couple chapters, and there's discussion of them being attacked by feral dogs.
Ships capsizing and sinking are talked about graphically, including describing the people drowning. Zombies pull people into the water and drown them. People drowning in the Paris Catacombs is talked about, as well as scuba divers running out of air.
