In season 3 (aka Spartacus: Vengeance), a goat is sacrificed via knife to throat. It bleeds out and is heard gasping/suffering.

In the beginning of "Spartacus: War of the Damned" during a battle sequence, a horse is shown to be stabbed by one of the Romans' spears. The horse is presumed to have bled to death—albeit off-screen—afterward.

Yes. A female character in season two is raped onscreen, and in season theee a man is raped. Genitals aren’t shown but it is still brutal and intended as revenge/power move. As we know, rape is about power rather than sex and the rapes on the show make sure to emphasize this. It is definitely not portrayed as sexy, but degrading.

Yes multiple characters both male and female. Many slaves both male and female are forced to have sex with Romans and other slaves for entertainment. There are many other on and off screen rapes.

Mentioned frequently. In season two a woman is raped and it goes on much longer than I would have preferred. In the final season a man is raped, also very ugly. When it aired and they showed content warnings, I remember that both episodes had a warning there was rape in the episode. Not sure if it is streaming, I have the entire series on Blu-ray but if you stream it, there still should be content warnings of rape shown.

One male character rapes another. Later the rapist makes some snarky comments alluding to the rape directly to the victim. Not sure exactly what “jokes about sexual assault on men” specifically consist of, but thought it was worth mentioning.

The gladiator characters are slaves (except for whoever is champion at the time). Chains, shackles, several characters are restrained with arms overheard when they are viciously whipped. Characters are held down and sexually assaulted.

There is at least one scene where a nameless Roman soldier is stabbed in the eye, very graphically.

Absolutely. Once again, it would take me at least an hour to list the episodes. We see brutal gore including, but not limited to:

-someone who loses a fight to the death and then the skin on their face is ripped away, which the winner wears as a trophy

-1/3 of the front of someone’s head is sliced off with a sword, their brain slides almost completely out of the missing part of their front skull

-a pregnant woman stabbed in her uterus by someone to kill her unborn baby

-graphic disembowlments, guts falling out to the ground in a pile

-someone gets their head cut off, but it takes the person doing it several hacks, head hangs to one side as a great deal of blood sprays everywhere

-someone’s head is smashed onto a marble floor until you can see their brains, skull fragments, eye knocked out of socket, blood everywhere

Just a few off the top of my head. You will need a strong stomach to watch this show, there is gore in it that if it were in a movie, would have never gotten an R rating and gone right to being unrated. If gore bothers you, I recommend watching something else. The Spartacus series is fantastic and addictive and entertaining, but one of the goriest TV series I’ve even seen. Holds nothing back at all.

Depends on your definition of body horror. It’s not like a body horror movie with transformations like The Fly remake or other David Cronenberg movies, but people do get horrible injured. To me, it’s a stretch to say there’s body horror-in one scene a gladiators guts start to poke out of wounds in his belly and he has to try to push his guts back in with his hands.

People cave other people’s heads in with rocks and I think a brick. In a very memorable season one scene, one character becomes enraged and smashes another’s head repeatedly into a marble floor. Very gory, brains and blood and skull fragments and and an eye graphically scattered around the white marble floor in a radius. I have a strong stomach and it still horrified me.

Yes, so many times I lost count. Some are in graphic slow motion. At least once, it takes a character several painful hacks to sever the head. In every case, blood sprays everywhere like a fountain, many times heads are shown rolling.

Someone is entombed alive in a concrete pillar while the new gladiator arena is built. They are standing up and bricked in. Needless to say, they die in there. Skip if claustrophobic.

Shown in the prequel miniseries, final episode.

S1 E1. Brief shot of someone vomiting when Spartacus wakes up in a boat. The montage has someone being ill.

S1E6. Montage scene at 40mins of all the gladiators drinking and having sex. You see and hear someone vomit. It’s only the once and very quick.

More than one character. If I get specific then it will spoil major plot points. Many character’s experience trauma and substantial tragedies, then flash back on it later or have a nightmare about it.

I will say one female character is sold into brutal sex slavery were she was raped, beaten, and tortured many times. She recovers eventually but it takes many episodes before she will even let her lover touch her again. Absolutely has PTSD and it is hard to watch as the actress is very believable and character is likable.

Most of it is in the second season. Just to avoid confusion they show began with season one, then they did a prequel miniseries while the lead actor was getting cancer treatment. So, not the prequel season which aired second, I mean the season that is subtitled “Vengaence” and picks up where season one left off.

Two characters in the first season, Barca and Pietro, die -- Barca is stabbed and Pietro kills himself. However, the TV show does subvert the 'Bury Your Gays' trope in the final season when the only two characters from the main cast left alive are both gay.

There are multiple instances of fairly graphic sexual content, as expected for the rating. There are a lot of shots of fully nude people, men and women, including full-frontal male nudity, in both sexual and non-sexual contexts.
