After a car crash, a criminal psychologist regains consciousness only to find that she's a patient in the same mental institution that currently employs her. It seems she's been accused of murdering her husband—but she has no memory of committing the crime. As she tries to regain her memory and convince her co-workers of her innocence, a vengeful spirit uses her as an earthly pawn, which further convinces everyone of her guilt.
This movie contains 36 potentially triggering events.
Teenage girls raped, tortured and killed. We don't see the rapes, active torture or the murders, but we do see a nearly naked girl lying in restraints, bearing visible signs of the torture, and the murderer is there with her.
Psychiatric medications are discussed throughout and there are multiple scenes where the protagonist is either sedated or forced to take medications against her will.
Chloe mentions that she was assaulted, and her “rape story” is mentioned multiple times. Without any spoilers, I’ll say there is a big theme of sexual assault.
At approximately 1 hour and 13 minutes into the movie, the main character sees a woman get her face slammed into a window and then the chest of the man assaulting her is seen through the window. The scene is quick and doesn't show much.
We see a person have half of his forearm chopped off with an axe. Technically, we don't see the chopped-off part of the arm completely separate from the rest of it, as the camera cuts away in the split second when the axe goes all the way through the arm, just before its edge comes out the other side.
Someone is sitting on a floor with one leg already broken with the sharp edge of an axe. Next, we see the same person have half of his forearm chopped off with the same axe.
Teenage girls raped, tortured and killed. We don't see the rapes, active torture or the murders, but we do see a nearly naked girl lying in restraints, bearing visible signs of the torture, and the murderer is there with her.
The first half of the movie shows many inhumane conditions in the psychiatric institution at the center of the story without ever addressing those conditions. Spoilers: The plot revolves around a woman being institutionalized for something she does while she was possessed. Her real trauma is ignored and she is frequently dismissed as "crazy" and mistreated by the institution's staff, including personal friends of hers.
The ghost of a 10-12-year-old boy is "hit" by a truck, and an onlooker screams, thinking he's a living child, but the truck goes right through him, and he disappears.
Hmm... We don't see anyone drown, but drowning is a thing in the movie. We repeatedly see the wet-looking ghost of a teen girl who was found dead in a river. People think she drowned herself, but she was murdered. I'm not sure if she died from drowning or was killed before being thrown in. At one point, we see the same ghost in an underwater scene in a swimming pool, in which a living woman is sitting under the water, holding her breath.
