[SPOILER] The main character is murdered in the end, which is incredibly sad. There is a line at the very end where he says there is nothing sad about his life or his death, which is I think what the other commenter meant by saying he seemed happy about being murdered, but watching the actual scene is incredibly brutal and he doesn't seem happy to be murdered.
