The movie starts with a child who has already died, during her funeral. Coins are placed on her eyes and her funeral pyre is lit. Children are also burned at a stake but their actual death is not shown.

They are completely unnecessary scenes imo but unfortunately they happen exactly while the main characters talk: the first one during also an important and major decision in the story, so you can't really skip it if you wanted to without missing something important. The second à little less important. However only their movements tell you that they are having sex, nothing graphic is really showed and both scenes don't last long.
