Although no one actually removes a character's head, one minor antagonist's head falls off for no discernible reason. The antagonist is already dead when this happens, and does not seem to be otherwise injured.

One other major supporting character is a disembodied head.

(spoilers) 9s kills an "infant" robot late in the game while it cried and called for its mom, however its not shown and 9s was basically insane from grief at this point so it may be a hallucination. It also important to note it isnt a real child but it is a sentient robot thats taking the role of an infant.

(SPOILERS) I'm not sure if this counts, but 2B is found to secretly be an execution type android who has had to kill 9S many times whenever he got too close to the truth of the game and command got worried. Between the game and supplemental reading, we know that 9S knows about this to a degree but chooses to not call 2B out and even craves her company because his loneliness outweighs what she's done to him.

Swords and spears are some of this game's primary weapons. The actual gameplay is not particularly gory, but the cutscenes can be, especially after battles with human-looking opponents. There is stabbing, sometimes there is mutual stabbing, and there is quite a bit of post-stabbing agony.

No, however if you're playing as 9S, an android who looks like a young boy, and you self-destruct, it will make him lack his shorts until you next teleport or load your game. It's not explicit or sexualized in any way, but if this bothers you, don't self-destruct as 9S.

Some of the Machines have created a religion in an attempt to mimic humanity, and when its leader dies they seek to "become as gods" like they believe their leader did.

The Machine "Adam" and his brother "Eve" read books to learn about humanity, and it is clear from their discussions about the text that their current book is Genesis.

A major military organization in the game seeks to justify its actions using religious metaphors, though it is not exactly religious per se.

The credits will roll at least five times before the game is actually over. The first two of these have post-credits scenes, partly to alert you that the game is not over. The actual final end credits have scenes throughout *and* after.

There are also many "joke" endings. These are marked by having the credits roll by extremely quickly. There are no scenes after these.

Not in any serious way. The androids you play as are too heavy to swim, so if you accidentally jump in water, it will fade to a black screen as your Pod companion fishes you out and puts you back on solid ground. Played for laughs and not graphic.
