Movie • 1992 • Action
ReportSynopsis
Having defeated the Joker, Batman now faces the Penguin—a warped and deformed individual who is intent on being accepted into Gotham society, with the help of Max Schreck, a crooked businessman, whom he coerces into helping him run for the position of Mayor of Gotham, while they both attempt to frame Batman in a different light. Batman must attempt to clear his name, all while also deciding just what must be done with the mysterious Catwoman slinking about.

A married couple keep their baby son in a lidded crate with air holes instead of a cradle because he's abnormal and apparently more or less dangerous, at least to cats (it's The Penguin). They proceed to kill him (or so they think) by throwing his bassinet in the river with him inside.

At the start of the movie Oswald grabs onto a cat and fights it, you never see it coming out of the cage so it can be assumed that it was killed.

you might see a comment here saying "We see a baby’s arm grab a curious cat before harming it offscreen. We hear the cat cry in pain" that does NOT mean an animal was harmed in the making. There is no known animal cruelty that happened during the film-making and the cat "crying" is likely from a stock recording of a vocal trained cat or cat in a unrelated scenario (note that the recording *could* be of a genuinely distressed cat, but we don't know the context and it's unlikely it was harmed since there's no documentation of it. It might simply be a recording taken while it was at the vet or something).

YES, there is a big snake (a boa, I think), in several scenes. However, it's so non-prominent that my co-watcher (and apparently many others) didn't notice it. It does nothing but hang lazily on a woman in Penguin's posse.

We see a close-up of a cat chewing on a woman's finger (still attached to the woman). Also, Penguin's "flipper hands" may bother some just by looking the way they do.

This one is tricky... We see Catwoman electrocuting herself and a man together, both of them disappearing in a rain of sparks. Afterwards, we see him lying very, very dead, whereas her body is missing. Shortly thereafter she turns out to be alive and seemingly well. Maybe she didn't die, or maybe she died and came back to life, like she did when she became Catwoman.

Yes, but not on-screen. It's in the beginning of the movie, and hardly a happy affair, since people in the room scream with horror at the sight of the newborn's misshapenness (it's The Penguin). We only hear the screams, and we don't see the baby at any point.

The Penguin was born with various physical malformations, which cause his parents to try to drown him as an infant. Throughout the movie we are supposed to be disgusted with his appearance. His attempts to garner sympathy from the Gotham residents is portrayed as obviously duplicitous.

From a film perspective I think it's worth noting that Catwoman is sexual, but not objectified in my opinion. Her alter ego is a rejection of her good girl image and infantilisation. She turns her femininity into power (like using sewing supplies to make weapons) and she uses her sexuality to feel powerful. It's quite important to note that sexual does not equal objectified. HOWEVER, some characters in the movie itself do undoubtedly objectify her, although they are quick to regret it.
