One of the major abilities in the series, called 'Genjutsu', is an illusionary ability often used to make people feel extreme pain without damaging their bodies. One extreme example is where a master of this ability, Itachi Uchiha, looks a protagonist, Kakashi, in the eye and traps him in an illusion for what feels like seven days, wherein he is crucified and stabbed repeatedly, though this is but an instant in the real world.

Both of our main characters, Naruto and Sasuke, are orphans. We see the death of Sasuke's parents at the hands of his older brother pretty early in a flashback, and again much later from the older brother's perspective. We see the death of Naruto's parents much later in a flashback, being told by the remnant of his mother's spirit sealed inside him.

A recurring gag through a series is men peeping on women in bathhouses (the women usually have a towel wrapped around them, but b*****s and buttocks often bulge out either side). In these scenes the 'camera' often does a zoom shot on the b*****s and buttocks. There are episodes where the main female characters go as a group to onsen/bathhouses (and a male scene once or twice between the two series of the same)

While not technically cops (and all technically cops characters being killed before the main events timeline) all the main character are shinobi, so, essentially military, and while the manga does overall tackle with the fact that constant military escalating is bad, ultimately the character trying to undermine the shinobi system are the villains, and going back to supporting the military is painted as a redemption.

Recurrent throughout the series. Someone's father dies by suicide, and in many occasions people "accept their death" and do things that they know will get them killed. For example, characters inflicting pain and attempting suicide to kill enemies which have taken control of them, etc.

There is a ninja technique called 'transformation jutsu' that characters can use to change their appearance into whoever they want. The main character uses this a lot early on to turn into attractive naked women (explicit parts are censored by smoke) to fluster/knock out perverted men.

Not only there's hate speech (which we can see even against the main character), but one of the Leaf Village clans is systematically oppressed through the years. Its clansmen are considered to be "aggressive" due to their biological characteristics and they were victims of a genocide for trying to fight for their rights and for respect. There's no real apology for what happened.

One of the characters (Choji) is mocked for his weight. Not only do his friends almost do it, but an enemy he encounters very directly mocks him for this. It's also an ongoing joke that he goes berserk when he's called fat.

Well, if you think about it, it's common to marry within a clan. They're all related somehow, most likely cousins. There's nothing specific, though.

There are no literal nuclear explosions, but there are powers quite explicitly meant to be atomic weapons metaphors that cause explosions with atomic-like visuals
