After the previous Godzilla attack, a miniature arms race ensues to collect his cells. Concerned over Godzilla's possible return, the Japanese government uses the cells to create a new bio-weapon, ANEB (Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria). They seeks the aid of geneticist Genshiro Shiragami, who's experiments result in a new mutation.

Kinda, the only organism to perish is a (spoiler alert) mostly plant with Godzilla DNA and the soul of a woman trapped within. Is it sad? Yes. Is it sad in the same way it would be if it were a pet? No

However, in later movies in the franchise, the life essence of that creature forms the villain of that film (they do die in that movie though)
