The theme of gaslighting or emotional manipulation throughout the show is often encouraged by Izaya, an intelligent yet sociopathic character who starts random trouble in the city just for his entertainment, by emotionally manipulating various groups against each other to watch. Though ironically, he becomes a bit of the philosophical narrator who teaches themes of the show by often going into monologues of how human nature is, and how he uses this for his abusive efforts in this urban fantasy city.

(Spoilers) One of the main characters is a polite pleasant guy who starts out fairly meek, but slowly shows his real self by getting addicted to various high risk exciting events. He then evolves into one of those tough characters who are still fairly polite but very calm during dangerous situations, especially in an effort to look after the city.

Lots of adult characters drinking at a bar (who is a character with a very badass past but is now a pacifist / peace loving guy at an older age) but oh well.

Some one is kidnapped and had a "Incapacitating agent" used on them, which made them struggle to breathe, also two characters wear gas masks constantly, though I am unsure if they find it inconvenient to breathe

There is a ghost in one of the character’s swords. (Spoilers) Strangely enough, you’d have think she was a rather boring regularly occuring character before she uses the sword to protect citizens against violent gangsters.

Celty is a headless woman who hides her lack of a head through a helmet, and is one of the major urban legends of this bizzare city. She is fairly enough though, one of the nicest, modest and down to earth while at the same time badass characters in the show from various heroic action scenes. She does wish throughout the show to find her head, to gain back her memories, and this theme of trying to accept herself without a head is explored. . . as an old man found himself drawing a beautifully dressed woman without a head in his sketchbooks. A mad scientist also falls in love with Celty as a regular character, who loves her despite the lack of a head.

No, but a character convinced someone to almost commit suicide, before another character steps in. This acts as an introduction to one of the series’s major villains.

As a show with multiple characters all in one city, much of these shows confusing combination of themes involve a lot of gang city violence.
