While interviewing a female witness, it comes out that she is a victim of marital rape, leading to a series of life-threatening miscarriages.
It’s also possibly implied that there was sexual abuse in Viviane’s marriage, but this is a little more ambiguous. In the discussion of the couples’ sex life Viviane says that in recent years her husband has been physically distant and rejected her advances, but when asked whether she wanted to sleep with him she confirmed that she did not. When asked how they ended up with four children if neither of them wanted to have sex with the other, Viviane becomes visibly upset, and doesn’t directly answer. In the context of the abusive marriage, it’s not entirely clear what degree of consent existed when the four children were conceived.

Not on-screen. Viviane discusses in broad terms the emotional abuse that she and her children endured at the hands of her husband. While most of the children are old enough to have moved out, Viviane was not permitted to take her youngest with her, and he remains with his abusive father. Viviane still prepares all his meals, even after moving out, and her sister in law delivers them to the house for her.

Viviane endures years of psychological torture at the hands of both her husband and the courts, who alternate between claiming she has a good life and should be happy and claiming that she is a sinful woman who deserves the pain of being married to a hateful man. When she finally breaks down from the years of trauma she has suffered, she is first banned from the courts for her emotion and later physically dragged from the room by court employees. The film follows a protracted attempt to break this woman, across many years and by multiple men.

In addition to the psychological and emotional abuse alluded to in this film (and explicitly depicted in the first film, ‘To Take A Wife’), there is also a description of Viviane having thrown dishes during their arguments. There is also a scene where a female witness is interviewed and it’s revealed that her husband controls her movements, won’t leave her unattended or permit her to leave their home, and has raped her repeatedly. The witness assures the court that she knows her place, and says to Viviane that all men ever want is respect, and if Viviane could be more respectful to her husband he wouldn’t hurt her so much.

The ending is intentionally ambiguous, it offers the possibility of resolution but does not suggest that it happens.

No slurs, but quite a lot of discriminatory language intended to victimize women. At one point in the film, the judge says angrily, “Know your place, woman!” A female witness is accused of being jealous of the abusive marriage and lying about it so that Viviane will be single and miserable, which the witness apparently must be, despite her objections and no evidence to suggest it. Another female witness attempts to discuss the way divorced women are treated differently in society than married women, and is ordered to leave the courtroom. Judges bend over backwards to ignore the grounds that others had deemed sufficient, and seem determined to find a way to both blame Viviane for being abused and also claim she has nothing to be upset about in her marriage.

There is no specific scene that is claustrophobic, but the entire film takes place in just two small rooms, so it has a very closed in feeling that becomes more intense as the film goes on.
