Report
England, early 20th century. The future writer and philologist John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) and three of his schoolmates create a strong bond between them as they share the same passion for literature and art, a true fellowship that strengthens as they grow up, but the outbreak of World War I threatens to shatter it.

No where near the focus but there are WWI scenes..In the background there are a few dead horses and you sort of see one fall very briefly.

There is a brief scene when Tolkien is in the trenches and he sees a fire-breathing dragon in the mist (likely a reference to “Smaug“ the Dragon character created by Tolkien) which is in reality enemy soldiers with flamethrowers.

Many people are burned by flamethrowers. The film imagines this as adragon attack that switches from the imagination to the close up bur ing of english soldiers by german troops.

There is a scene at the beginning of the film where there are a few gun fire flashes. There are also a couple of scenes in the film where sunlight is shining through trees and the camera moves, causing flashes of light. Another scene had a flickering candle.

While Tolkien himself has a happy ending, there is major character death.
