Victor Alvarez is an alcoholic, but gets sober at the end of season 1. Schneider has all kinds of addictions which are mentioned throughout the series, but he doesn't relapse up until the end of season 3.

One of the recurring characters is an alcoholic, but decides to get sober the end of season 1. One of the main characters has a rather graphic relapse towards the end of season 3.

In the last episode of season 2 the grandmother is in a coma, and they make it seem like she’s going to die, but she doesn’t. Still an episode you might want to avoid because it’s very emotional and the characters are saying their goodbyes to her because they don’t know if she’ll live.

Not really. Sometimes the grandmother or occasionally the mom will hang out with the grandfather (who is dead) in their minds, but he’s not actually a ghost, they’re just imagining he’s there for comfort and because they miss him.

In S04E05 Perfect, Leslie gifts Schneider a big scary clown doll named Ruckus, which appears in most of Schneider’s scenes through the rest of the episode.

There are repeatedly scenes in group therapy, though.

The grandmother is in a coma in the hospital in the last episode of season 2. The grandmother comes out fine, and the episode does not emphasize the medical aspects and we don’t see any medical procedures. The mom is a nurse at a small doctors office, so in many episodes we see her in the office area talking to her coworkers, but we don’t see any medical things take place, and they’re almost never in the exam room.

The daughter starts dating someone who uses they/them pronouns and the family learns about pronouns. There’s a bit of brief confusion at the beginning but they all learn quickly and are very respectful going forward.

There’s mention of hate speech being used against a couple of the characters. The characters themselves do not use it.

It is discussed that before the series started the father (who is mostly not in their lives anymore) did some really bad stuff while living with PTSD and alcoholism like telling his kids he was about to commit suicide. He wasn’t violent, and it’s off camera because it’s before the series starts, but they do talk about it multiple times.
