A contemporary British re-working of The Twilight Zone with stories that tap into the collective unease about our modern world. Over the last ten years, technology has transformed almost every aspect of our lives before we've had time to stop and question it. In every home; on every desk; in every palm - a plasma screen; a monitor; a smartphone - a black mirror of our 21st Century existence.
It is mentioned that an 8-year old is being sexually abused by her father. There's a brief flash of the father starting an interaction and loosening his belt. Can be triggering.
A mouse is shown and heard getting electrocuted by an invention, that was supposed to only stun it but voltage was too high. Quick squeak of pain, then it dies.
There's a snake like alien that gets stabbed and eaten, its squeals in pain while this is happening. You see it coming when they're going to a new planet and a certain someone is walking around with a spear.
S1E1: A character is coerced into publicly having sex with a pig, which is partially shown on screen.
S1E2: A character is given a drink called "compliance," which leads her to agree to be part of a sex ring. There is sexual harassment before she is pressured into going into the ring and taking off her shirt by two men and a woman, who also make other sexual comments. While she says "yes" in the videos of her sexual encounters, which are distributed throughout the community, she is hesitant to do so, and it is clear that saying "no" is not an option.
S2E3: Mention of pedophilia.
S3E3: A character is shown masturbating to child p**n (although nothing on his laptop is shown) and is later arrested. This character also interacts with (but does not assault) a child.
S4E1: Two women are forced to kiss a man several times. A third woman is tortured when she refuses to kiss someone. There is one suggestion of a main character forcing a woman into sex.
S4E2: The woman coerced into doing p**n by the judges of a talent show is referenced.
S4E6: A man is shown spanking his girlfriend during sex, despite her repeated requests for him not to do so. In the context of the episode, it is made clear that he is doing this specifically to cause her pain, in order to utilize a device that turns her pain into his pleasure.
It is mentioned that an 8-year old is being sexually abused by her father. There's a brief flash of the father starting an interaction and loosening his belt. Can be triggering.
Mention of graphic sexual violence including genital mutilation and torture when discussing the prior actions of a serial killer - none shown on screen only described
Someone cuts/barely stabs their hand with a shard of glass, and later threatens to stab themself in the neck. Both are shown, but not bloody or forceful; It just shows the skin being prodded.
when theres roughly 4:30 left in the episode, a woman is shot in the eye and it shows the gunshot wound (basically a huge hole in her face) in the background of scenes and in closeups for the next minute or so
character is tied up and has his arm slowly cut off, but there’s no blood as he’s a robotic person. he then watched his family be killed but nothing is shown.
Princess Susanna's finger is severed and sent in a box when the Prime Minister's team attempts to fake fulfilling her kidnappers demands. The severing is not shown on screen as it is done out of view behind Susanna's back. Spoiler: ˙ǝlɐɯ pǝᴉɟᴉʇuǝpᴉun uɐ oʇ pǝƃuolǝq ʇᴉ pɐǝʇsuᴉ 'ɐuuɐsnS oʇ ƃuolǝq ʎllɐnʇɔɐ ʇou pᴉp ɹǝƃuᴉɟ ǝɥʇ ʇɐɥʇ pǝlɐǝʌǝɹ sᴉ ʇᴉ 'ǝposᴉdǝ ǝɥʇ ɟo puǝ ǝɥʇ ʇ∀
there’s multiple, s1 e1 shows the tying and a scene of the feet hanging (i think), s6 e2 has a scene of the rope being set up, the chair being kicked, and their body hanging
Follows a kidnapping. Very very strong suicidal ideation which will trigger anyone who has suffered from these thoughts. Threatens to kill the kidnapped man who looks to be around 20 years old and himself several times it is very triggering and I recommend not watching if you have suffered from these thoughts as i wish it came with a warning.
The kidnappers wife died in car accident that he caused by looking at his phone. This is the whole reason for the kidnapping to tell the owner of smithereens that he has succeeded in making the app addictive. We watch the car accident but not explicitly her death
This episode's centered around a technology that allows one's mind to go from their body to another body (a replica). While no one's original body gets possessed, multiple characters use the same replica, which could count as a possession. It's not played to scare.
Copied comment from tumble for ease of finding it again.

This is so complicated because it's a movie that breaks character within a show. The actor, who never married and is heavily implied to be a lesbian gets with a woman, another actor, unmarried. The role the first woman plays is of a straight married woman whose husband is trying to end her
We're not sure where Stripe is, but he's in a white room with a psychologist talking to him, so I think it's similar enough to warrant a warning on here.
I’d say no. There is no indication the character is actually mentally ill, just toxically possessive. Negative traits don’t automatically mean mental illness, and the two shouldn’t be conflated.
Someone dies by suicide and it's mentioned on the news.
Another time someone dies by suicide through gun. You can see the lead up and they cut away but we hear the gunshot.
Not necessarily self harm in the traditional sense, but harm to self - A character tries to break out of somewhere impossible, so he is throwing himself against the wall, punching, etc and there’s blood and screaming.
In 'Jane Is Awful', the main character binges and then takes laxatives (although she does this for plot reasons rather than because of an ED, could still be triggering). If you want to skip the scene, it is between 33:24 and 34:35. In the scene directly after this she sh*ts herself as a result of taking the laxatives, there are noises but nothing is shown.
Someone implied to have schizophrenia suddenly commits a murder-suicide. Mentally ill people are much more likely to be victims of violence, not perpetrators. Plus the details of why/how it happens are just a bit contrived.
In San Junipero two gay characters die, but their relationship is framed as something very positive, they both die of oldage and they find love in the "afterlife" so imo it does not fall into the bury your gays trope
Someone’s mental capacity is questioned. They are implied to be mentally ill, and their symptoms are downplayed, ignored, or disbelieved. This person is tortured as punishment for a crime they may have been innocent of, by reason of insanity.
S7E1 Common People a recurring plot line where the couple is trying for a baby. Multiple brief sex scenes that move the plot forward during the dialogue (you can still skip them and get the point — they’re all building on things that are shown in other scenes)
Spoiler: while the character is revealed to be a murderer, it feels very bleak that she goes through this torture every day. So it’s up to the viewer whether or not it’s sad.
