The protagonist goes out at night to chase off marauding wild dogs with a fiery torch. She calls for her dog Jackie, who never appears again. The woman is tearful, knowing it has been taken. In the next couple scenes, instead of Jackie, she is followed by and feeds a smaller version of Jackie, so you know Jackie was killed by the wild animals. It is depicted very subtly, off screen, not too heartbreaking, but still sad.
Cows and their calves are rounded up in violent fashion, beat with sticks, rocks thrown at them, roped to tree trunks, and many eventually die of starvation.
The main character is taking care of her ailing, half-blind elderly mother throughout the film. The mother dies off-screen, but her grave and empty bed is shown. It's almost just suggested, so it's not too hard.
