There is a very horrific scene where a cat is in a cupboard/closet, and it's obvious that it's dying of starvation and neglect. It's gruesome and awful. Later on, it's confirmed that the cat did die in an offhand comment. [SPOILER]

Well it's not exactly dead at this moment but at 00:16:37, when Maddie hears a strange noise, she opens the closet door and there's some kind of animal - dog/cat/? - that's very obviously not well and it's obviously in some kind of paid. It's a short view but long enough and gruesome enough to definitely avoid. It's visual and aural.
