A woman who has gone distant and lethargic after the death of her son becomes more lucid and invites her (now undead) son to come to her; whether this is a deliberate act of suicide, or whether she doesn't realize he'll kill her, remains unclear.
It's mentioned that the main character's mother died in a way that might have been suicide and might not; nobody has ever known the truth.
