Matilda Stone is a perennially single female detective whose three aunts are well-known crime writers that help her solve whodunit style murders as well as set her up on blind dates.
In the episode The Modern Art of Murder part 1 a dog is killed in a hit and run - it’s body is discovered at 13 mins 30s. It pans down into a close up of the name tag on the collar with blood. The owners grief is a continuing storyline in the episode.
In Smoke & Mirrors Part 2 a man in a dress opens a hotel room door at 17m01s - 17m05s. It’s played for surprise, as it’s not who the person knocking expected, but they’re not treated negatively.
In Sparring With Death there is an acupuncture scene.
In part one this is at 39m04s to the end of the episode. It’s shown again in the Part 2 recap at 1m22s to 1m33s. And again in flashback at 33m10 to 33m25s
Matilda appears to be watched throughout the series by a mysterious figure. At the end of Series 1 we discover he has been taking photos of her and has a board of images and newspaper clippings related to her and her mother’s disappearance. At the end of The Modern Art of Murder Part 2 he adds a portrait of Matilda to this collection. In the start of The Raven Part 1 we see him watching her as a child. At the end of The Raven Part 2 he may not be threatening.
In Series 1 Smoke and Mirrors Part 1 we discover one character kept a shrine to their ex wife at 42m 10s.
At various parts in the series the detectives follow suspects.

In Sparring With Death there is also a backstory about a characters involvement in a car accident that killed her family. It is discussed at 37m20s to 38m00s in Part 1, but remains relevant through Part 2.
