Skeptical female clinical psychologist Kristen Benoist joins a priest-in-training and a blue-collar contractor as they investigate supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and other extraordinary occurrences to see if there’s a scientific explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.
At the beginning (timestamp: 22:22-22:27) during the "book art" section of the episode, there's an illustration of what looks like a lamprey eel mouth with a bunch of eyes around it. I watched this episode with my best friend who has trypophobia and she was affected so I figure there might be others affected too. Once the screen reflection turns white it's safe.
Not technically, but Kristen’s kids feel abandoned by their father, whose work as a mountain climbing guide keeps him from having any contact with his family for months at a time. This is addressed multiple times.
A woman tries to warn her mother that the man she is dating is bad, even providing audio evidence; the mother dismisses this and continues to dare the man. A pregnant woman's concerns about one of her unborn babies are initially dismissed. A grandmother gives her granddaughter advice that gets the granddaughter into trouble; the grandmother denies doing this, even to her granddaughter
Kind of? A genocide survivors tortures someone who played a role in it, he apologizes and she forgives him and kisses him on the head before killing him.
A priest drinks mushroom tea to "see god" in a few episodes and in s1e8 a group of people drink sangria laced with psilocybin at a party (some of them did not know it was laced). A nurse continues to give a patient pain medication, despite his protests saying he doesn't want or need them (s1e11)
Any details on this or when it happens?S3E7 a goat is sacrificed. You don’t see it happen, but you see a character with blood all over him and he says the people who sacrificed the goat poured its blood on him for religion.
Maybe? A woman says she's going to kill the cat then walks off screen. Nothing is shown and it's said in sort of a facetious way but the cat isn't mentioned or seen again (s1e9)
A man has sex with a demon who has disguised itself as someone he knows (making consent questionable). Eventually he finds out that it’s a demon but consent remains questionable throughout because the demon does stuff before he can really react.
A demon removes a woman's underwear in a dream; the demon is shown getting under the blanket then the woman wakes up (s1, e1). Besides that, rape and sexual assault are mentioned in a few episodes but not shown or graphically described
S1 e1 many people are shown being cut and killed; a demon cuts a woman's finger in a dream. S1 e2 a girl's jaw is cut, she has a scar but survives. S1 e6, a woman cuts the side of a man's throat, intentionally avoiding arteries; he survives.
Dentist is working on daughter’s teeth and gets her finger “removed”, it’s very graphic so make sure to turn away the second time the girl is in the Dentist’s office
Fingers cut off during a dream in s1 e1 (shown again in later episodes). A man with amputated legs is shown in s1 e11; he is later shown with legs. A man's ear is cut off in s1 e12.
S1E3 a man is shown in the background of a scene jumping off a building; his death is assumed but never confirmed or even mentioned again. There is no body or anything shown after he jumps.
s2e6, a white cop shoots a black woman thinking she has a gun. a main character’s cop friend claims not all cops are bad but the cop who shot the black woman is a good cop
Briefly in s1 e2 (video of emergency operations and video of prepping for an autopsy; main characters walk through hospital and chat in security lobby). Briefly in s1 e10 (2 girls are hospitalized, investigators talk to them in the hospital). Most of s1 e11 takes place in a hospital (a man is subdued to prevent him from talking; a man rips out his IV a couple times and mitts are placed on his hands to prevent it; patient abuse; a man intentionally falls out of his bed to get his cell phone so he can call for help, blood is shown across the floor; possible hallucinations of demons carrying a patient away).
In the background of one of the first episodes, at the end you can see the person they’ve been working on, and thought they helped, jumps off a building and it’s never mentioned so far again
If you get motion sickness easily there are parts of episodes that will bother you. S1E4 virtual reality headset. S1E5 the “ghost hunter” TV show is filmed handheld.
kind of. a sinister woman is looking at camera talking about the world being doomed. it's Kristen's pov so the woman isn't breaking character or anything but it's maybe best to avoid around 41:20-41:55 (on the service I'm watching on)
Mentioned but not shown in a couple episodes. In episode 13, a woman pregnant with twins loses one; she bleeds and it is said that the remaining twin absorbed the other.
Not first but a black man is stabbed in episode 10 and survives. Another black man is suffocated by a nurse in episode 11. A white nurse mistreats and abuses black men in a hospital (e11). It is mentioned that she intentionally kills black patients. Black man shot and killed in e12.
None so far. One episode in season 2 centers around a white cop killing a black woman as he believes he saw her reaching for a gun but it turned out to be a cell phone. Racism within the police force is a heavy topic in this episode. Episode spoiler: he get away with it.
Somewhat graphic sex scene between a man and a woman. No parts are shown but the man is seen and heard thrusting into a woman, and her legs are up ans moving with each thrust. They are also wearing kink masks. Happens early in the episode and has an obvious lead up scene.
