When a group of misfits is hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.
(Spoilers) A couple videos feature violence on a character from their significant other. In "Second Honeymoon," the man is killed and betrayed by his wife. In "The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger," the boyfriend gaslights and manipulates Emily and another girl, and actually causes Emily harm by cutting her stomach open and breaking her bones/beating her up.
In The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger Emily's boyfriend gaslights her into believing her injuries are a result of her having schizoaffective disorder despite her being mentally sound.
There's a dead carcass of some kind in the segment in the woods, the context made it seem like it was a human to me but it's so decomposed it's genuinely hard to tell
Easy to miss but in the third story a man holds a clearly real mayfly by the wings, it's shot very up close but very blurry. His friend then dares him to eat it and he does. It's unclear if the actor really puts it in his mouth or let it go just before
[Pre-segments] A woman is sexually assaulted in a parking lot.
[Segment one] A woman falls unconcious due to alcohol/drugs and the man she's with genuinely considers assaulting her. The same man from this encounter tries to sleep with another woman with dubious consent. She does not look comfortable with what's happening.
[Segment two] A man tries desperately to coerce his girlfriend to film them having sex. She repeatedly says no and he refuses to let up, continuing to try and take her clothes off and kissing her even when she tries to shrug him off. They thankfully get interrupted before he can continue trying to convince her.
In the intro the group of criminals expose a woman's chest in a parking garage, and in Amateur Night a character is talked out of sexually assaulting a woman that's passed out
in the segment “Amateur Night,” a man almost has sex with a drunk, unconscious woman, but stops when his friend says he’ll go to jail for statutory rape.
(Minor spoilers) Early in the film, the main characters restrain a woman and lift her shirt up while she screams. (Spoilers) In "10/31/98," the characters discover a woman tied up by cultists and screaming for help.
She might not be exactly human, but she appears almost fully human aside from a split in her forehead, so it’s very dependent on how sensitive the viewer is to this sort of thing.
(Spoilers) In "Amateur Night," a man's hand is ripped off. It's hard to see with the dark lighting and the shaky camera, but you can tell if you're paying attention.
A guy breaks his wrist after falling down motel stairs in the first segment, and one of the guys in the old man's house in the transition sequences seems to break his leg after falling down basement stairs though this is not shown as graphically
Near the end of the first segment, man’s hand/wrist is looked at after he falls down the stairs, and it looks pretty roughed up. Bloodied and broken at about where the hand meets the wrist.
Only one instance of vomiting (27:08-27:26) at 27:08 (you hear a cough) 27:11 (you see the person coughing) 27:19 (disgustingly realistic sound and seeing sickness but it's rather blurry/shaky cam) 27:24 (long burp/retch but by this point camera pans away) -----
I've searched so long for this movie on this site (search function doesn't work too well with /'s in the title) and on other sites to find out about this aspect and not knowing how often someone gets sick put me on the edge of my seat. It's only this short instance and the bad part about it is definitely the sound, not as much the visuals. If you want to, skip this scene - the rest of the movie is definitely great! -----
SPOILER: When a lady rips someone's p***s off, as the camera man goes away from behind the bed towards the door, he pans towards the lady. As soon as she starts coughing, this is your cue to skip. It does not start immediately as she starts coughing.
(Spoilers) In the 4th segment, Emily is gaslighted throughout her story, and part of this includes her being made to believe she has a mild schizoaffective disorder. She does not actually have one, because it is clear by the end she’s being gaslighted.
In the segment in the woods a body is briefly scene in the water, and later one of the guys pretends to drown while swimming but there is no actual drowning on screen
