jesse calls his parents and asks for them to pick him up in a spot they frequented when he was a child. once they were out of the house, he got in using a hidden spare key, took a gun, and left without providing them with any explanation or closure
In flashbacks, Todd consistenly treats and talks to Jesse almost as though he's a child. He gaslights and manipulates him into submitting to a lot of things. I found it incredibly creepy and unnerving and it disturbed me more than I thought it would.
No one is stalked traditionally, but if you're sensitive to this, it's worth noting the main character is wanted by the police the entire movie, so there's fear of being found, and constantly hiding
There's a tarantula shown in a tank multiple times, there's some kind of large, black beetle shown being picked up by hand, and there's a fly near a dead body at one point
A character is shown chained to a rail along the ceiling and forced to run back and forth at full speed several times to demonstrate that the chain or rail will not break.
Depends on what your definition of excessive is, it wasn't excessive by my standards but might be for someone more sensitive. There is a shooting scene and during this scene when someone gets shot in the head their blood splatters behind them.
There is a flashback scene depicting Walter White coughing severely due to his lung cancer, which could be uncomfortable for anyone with breathing sensitivity. There is also a scene depicting someone who was strangled to death
The film is about a character who has spent nearly half a year in captivity by people who regularly abused and tortured him constantly both physically and mentally
The R word isn't used, but near the beginning, there's a scene with two guys playing games and some of the insults being used relate to developmentally disabled kids and helmet-wearing
Not sure how to rate this one. I'm inclined to say no, but since 3 other people said yes, maybe I'm just not as jumpy. There were no scenes that were shocking and unexpected enough to make me jump. There were a couple of scenes where something alarming happened but where you were previously given the context you need to expect the loud noise.
The police are portrayed as no better than the criminal gang that held the protagonist captive. In a trailer, a friend of the protagonist refuses to cooperate with the police for trying to put the protagonist in another cage.
Jesse has clear symptoms of PTSD, and he commits violence in order to save his own life, but his PTSD/trauma is not the reason or explanation for his violence.
there is what could potentially be described as disordered eating, not due to an eating disorder itself but as a result of being deprived of food during a kidnapping situation. after jesse escapes, he is shown frantically and desperately eating lots of food
In certain scenes (mostly in the flashback parts) the main character is held in small spaces by the people keeping him captive, near the end he is hiding in a small space as he is transported to his new life
Perhaps worth mentioning that the group that held the main character captive are a bunch of white supremacists who wear swastika tattoos. I don't believe any of the people who wore these are alive or shown in this movie, however.
Near the beginning, while Jesse's friends are finding him something to wear, there are cracks made about one friend being fat, to which he defends himself jokingly and another joke is made about his defense
Near the end, a group of men are sizing up another guy who's very tall and buff, and one compares him to the size of another guy's mom
Near the beginning there are a whole bunch of insults passed back and forth between Skinny Pete and Badger while they play video games including: short buses, "slow" kids, helmet-wearing, people with no legs, blind people, etc.
This may depend on how you define it, but there are strippers shown near the end that are treated in a way I consider objectifying by the people who hired them.
There was no overt ridicule for crying, but a character is told that pulling heartstrings will get him nowhere at one point when he's pleading for help
