The true story of Ruby Bridges, an African-American girl who, in 1960 at age 6, helped to integrate the all-white schools of New Orleans. Although she was the only black girl to come to the school she was sent to, (and since all the white mothers pulled their children out of class, she was the only one there, period), and though she faced a crowd of angry white citizens every day, she emerged unscathed, physically or emotionally. Encouraged by her teacher, a white woman from the North named Barbara Henry, and her mother, Lucille, and with her own quiet strength, she eventually broke down a century-old barrier forever, a pivotal moment in the civil-rights movement

a living person does not die by hanging. however, there is a scene where Ruby is playing with her baby doll, which is also black. she ties a bow around the baby doll’s neck and holds it up as if to hang it. they have this scene to show how the racists’ harassment is affecting Ruby and she is beginning to hate herself. Ruby eventually learns to love herself and her skin again, but this may be an upsetting scene to some.

not an eating disorder exactly, but Ruby refused to eat anything other than packaged food because she believed racists would poison her (they threatened her).

yes. Ruby is commonly called racial slurs and other derogatory terms are used frequently. racists also harass her, threaten to poison her food, and talk about killing her. it’s very sad but historically accurate. it’s probably a good movie to show children that are learning about the civil rights movement and have a good understanding of it and also won’t just repeat words they hear on tv because there are slurs said in this movie.

it’s mentioned. Ruby’s family frequently shopped at a store. after Ruby was put in the school with white kids, the store owner asked them not to come back to the store. and father replied “you remember who your first customers were when you first moved here cause no crackers would buy from jews”. so maybe not outright anti semitism - this movie is about the struggles of black people - but it’s mentioned and I know some Jewish people don’t like the term “Jew” as I guess some anti semites use it in a derogatory way
