The story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same girl, who bears a striking resemblance to the beautiful but ruthless vampire they knew and loved in 1864.
This is especially common and can be very triggering, as the vampires have a compulsion ability that allows them to make people forget things and that forces them to believe what they're being told
I don't know what the hell is up with all these No responses. There is absolutely domestic violence. Tyler Lockwood is repeatedly verbally abused and is also slapped by his father. Anna is slapped by her mother. etc.
Not a belt but there is references to a child gathering their own switch from the yard and being beaten with it by their father. It's when Lily is talking to Damon in s6 ep2 at roughly 29 mins in.
Sex under compulsion is non-consensual & thus considered sexual assault, regardless if they showed interest before compelled as they no longer have the power to make decisions of their own.
Most of the characters start off as teenagers and get into relationships with century+ old vampires. Examples include [SPOILERS FROM HERE ON], Elena, who starts the show being 17, dating Stephan and Damon who are 146 and 153 years older than her. Another example is Caroline, who is frozen at 17 years old, is paired with a 1000-year-old vampire at one point.
The ages get a little blurry near the end of the show, but it still gets really uncomfortable, especially in the earlier seasons.
Vervain is used against vampires as a roofie-type drug, can incapacitate them and even render them unconscious. It's slipped into drinks without their knowledge and also forced into them with syringes.
First instance to come to mind is in 1x22 where it shows many people people being burned alive. I believe people being burned alive is a recurring thing though.
First instance that comes to mind is a vampire being tortured by being bound with vervain (an herb that harms them) soaked ropes and then cut. There are numerous other occasions though.
I believe this happens more than once but specifically in 1x22 and 2x1 they show someone getting their fingers cut off with a knife, at the end and beginning of the episodes respectively
Self harm by c*tting wrists in S4 Ep 22. Someone is compelled to do it, and they make the comment “I have to keep c*tting” before a graphic scene of the person doing the action.
I don't get the "no" comments. Elena (main character) is 17 and while she is consensual with her boyfriend (who is over 150 years old, btw), she is absolutely sexualized by his older brother, who makes inappropriate comments, ogles her openly, and fondles her undergarments on one occasion (the 2nd undergarment fonding was was she was 18 and no longer a minor). This same man compels a 17-yr-old Caroline to be his "girlfriend" as well. Pretty much all of the main teenagers are sexually active, from age 15 and up, though mostly that's with other teens.
Well, yes, it's a show about supernaturals, LOL. Of course they die. Dozens of vampires and multiple werewolves die in the first 3 seasons alone. Witches are human, but many of them die as well.
Vicki is said to have overdosed, she did do drugs but that's not the reason of her death, in season 2, Jeremy overdoses in attempt to kill himself to turn into a vampire
In season 6 there is a teddy bear wich literally fell apart cause of being old and in the ground for years (later they mend him). It's also kicked (actually it was very funny scene but propably not for everyone)
*spoilers* In season 2, both Mason and Tyler retch and gag and possibly vomit from drinking Wolfsbane before they turn into a werewolf. I forgot which episode Mason was but Tyler is episode 11. Masons is a little hard to catch (and it’s on a video that is watched), but Tyler’s is easy because you know it’s coming from seeing what happened to Mason. Sound is bad, not so much visual.
Also in season 3, ep 18, Sage and another guy gag and then vomit blood or liquid around the 28 minute mark.
Season 4, ep 2. At 4:30ish immediately after Stefan and Elena make out against the tree, she quickly runs away and is shown gagging/possibly vomiting on the ground. Same episode at just before 17 min, after Elena talks to April in the church it cuts to her vomiting blood in a toilet and then in the sink. Very graphic. Season 4, Episode 10: At about 26:20 April starts coughing in a classroom with Bonnie and then vomits up a bunch of water. Season 5, ep 2. Just before 2:30 Katherine is shown in the woods looking sick and possibly vomits by a tree. Same episode a few minutes later, Elena is with Stefan by the water and she starts vomiting a TON of water, it was very graphic and the sound was bad. Season 5, ep. 7. Around the two minute mark when Silas and the couple are at the bus stop, the male starts vomiting blood and retching. Season 6, ep 4. At about 5 minutes in, Jeremy suddenly vomits into a blue bag. It’s extremely sudden, it cuts right to the scene after Elena and Stefan are talking on his motorcycle. Season 6, ep 15 (to add to other comment) after Jo vomits, Kai shows up at the door and also suddenly vomits. He also vomits again at 11 minutes in. Season 7, ep 6. “Jo” vomits right after Caroline feeds her her blood at about 19:45. Season 7, ep 17. At about 13 minutes in, Stefan is running thru the woods handcuffed and he drops to his knees and gags and vomits. Same episode he vomits again around 29:30. Season 7, ep 18. “Stefan” suddenly vomits blood into a bag while in the car with Damon. Opening scene, 50 seconds in. Season 8, ep 1. A girl vomits blood with Caroline at 27:45ish. Season 8, ep 6. Enzo gags and vomits in a bowl at 12 minutes. It’s a cut scene so be careful. Mute/look away after Caroline and Alaric go into the empty diner. Season 8, ep 15. (Multiple scenes, all same person): Matt’s mom goes into a bathroom with a bloody nose and vomits blood in the sink at about 10:40. Same episode at 20:15, she vomits again after Peter says “I gave it to Stefan already”. Same episode, at 35:40 at the wedding right after Damon grabs her throat. And again at 41:05 after Vicki rings the bell.
caroline's dad is said to have divorced her mom to be gay, but i don't know if he cheated before that but he does come back in a few episodes and it could be triggering
Stefan has PTSD from being locked in a safe for 3 months. He is also put through exposure therapy. Damon has PTSD from the augustine society. It is handled until he is put back in the same cell and his traumatic experience rush back to him.
The vampires have an ability to make them hear better. In some episodes, sounds that could trigger people are magnified to show how their hearing works.
idk who's saying no but literally in season 2 when elijah finds elena at her lake house, she holds a knife to neck and says "ill kill myself" while elijah is at the threshold of the door.
I say yes, but only if you want to count when Elena gets turned and she cant drink from blood bags or animals. but thats more like a blood disorder/problem
A significant number of black people and people of color are murdered by vampires.
The town is historically racist (slavery).
*Making notes here since there is still no "racism" category on this site.
The brother (Damon) is physically in his mid 20’s but is actually over 100. He takes interest in two highschool girls, and has relationships with both.
caroline's mother has cancer in s6 and dies after it being animated by caroline trying to save her by turning her into a vampire, but it makes the cancer go faster, to the point her mother has stage 10 cancer and eventually dies.
This happens many times. First time is episode one in the first few minutes. Most often, it's a vampire attempting to injure people in cars and kill them.
