There is a ghost who is a mall cop, but he is innocent and breaks typical police stereotypes (except for the whole donut thing). He uses water guns, it’s impossible to die to him, and he is quite cowardly.
Several trap rooms with lowering ceilings or approaching spike walls, which trigger an immediate game over if not escaped in time. (No gore - the screen cuts to black and plays the regular game over ending sequence.)
It's possible to lose the last of your health from falling off certain ledges, but the camera does not show the fall, and the game over sequence acts as if Luigi had been captured instead.
Luigi's attempts to fend off a monstrous ghost cat result in him accidentally ripping its three tails off. It doesn't seem particularly bothered by this, and they grow back.
On floor 10, the Tomb Suites, there is a puzzle where you are in a room that gets filled with a poisonous gas. The gas takes down Luigi’s health over time and he struggles to breath because of it.
No but certain ghosts have a fiery looking aura/glow effect around them. Examples include, Amadeus Wolfgeist, King Macfrights, Serpci, and DJ Phantasmagoria.
There are three ghosts that appear to be young triplets or at least sisters. It is unclear if they were always ghosts or if they died before the game started.
All of Luigi's friends are kidnapped off-screen at the beginning of the game, and rescuing them is the main objective. In addition, one level requires the player to actively prevent another character from being kidnapped by roaming ghosts.
While there are no jumpscares, the ghosts do their best to scare Luigi and there are some startling moments that may be upsetting to younger kids. (e.g.; a yeti costume suddenly grabbing Luigi when he gets close, spiders crawling over the camera or swarming out of the vent Luigi is crouched in, furniture coming to life and attempting to eat him...)
No, but occasionally furniture or other inanimate things can be possessed. Example include, various trash bins, a piano (during the fight against Amadeus Wolfgiest), and a boat (during the fight against Captain Fishook), etc.
Emetophobia warning: in the water level (B2), often when the sewer water touches Luigi, he makes grossed out or gagging noises. Probably not noticable with the volume off if you need to
No, but as the ghosts’ causes of death are not known, some fans speculate online how each of the ghosts died, with some possible causes theorized as being suicide.
In the Unnatural History Museum, after you pull open the curtains, there are two full screen white lightning effects. After, it's ambient lightning through a window.
Morty, the ghost in Paranormal Productions (floor 8) is commonly speculated to be gay. This is never confirmed though. Also, like all the other ghosts, it is unclear if they were always ghosts, or died before the game started.
Miniature (toy cars likely) cars do collide with things during Morty’s boss fight. Also at the beginning, when the red Toad is driving the bus, he occasionally hits a couple bushes and is driving quite poorly although the bus never crashes.
No, but in the fights against Captain Fishook, Clem, The Magician Triplets/Nikki, Lindsey, and Ginny, and King Boo, bombs and explosives are seen and used.
