For Halloween 1992, the BBC decides to broadcast an investigation into the supernatural, hosted by TV chat-show legend Michael Parkinson. Parky (ably assisted by Mike Smith, Sarah Greene & Craig Charles) and a camera crew attempt to discover the truth behind the most haunted house in Britain. This ground-breaking live television experiment does not go as planned, however...
This movie contains 13 potentially triggering events.
Only somewhat. As the film deals with ghost encounters, one character questions if another is lying about them. There's also a character who presents his arguments as more rational than the main paranormal scientist, but no one ever succumbs to the gaslighting that occurs.
No cats die on-screen. A story is told about a man who locked himself up with his cats. The cats end up dying and become cat-ghosts, and you can hear them meowing at times.
One of the children (the main focus of poltergeist activity) gets covered in scratches, a few photos are showed halfway though the film and then they appear on the child towards the end
There is a scene where a person describes finding saliva inexplicably appearing on food and other surfaces in his house, as well as excrement being smeared on the bathroom cabinets. However, nothing is shown.
later in the film, the ghost is discussed by a former psychologist of one of its dead, who implies mental illness is at the root of his actions. the call is also transphobic and pathologizing
SPOILERS:
At the end of the film, one of the main characters is lured into a short closet underneath the stairs and the door shuts behind them. This closet has been established to be unopenable from the inside. There's no prolonged claustrophobic scenes whatsoever, but the implication could be triggering to claustrophobic viewers.
one of the reveals involves the ghost being referred to transphobically and connects it to their being a danger to the family, so while the misgendering is a little unclear i guess, there is definitely transphobia
No homophobic slurs, but the revelation that the spirit while alive believed he was possessed by a woman and wore women's clothes, in addition to being a child molester, can be considered transphobic.
A character has thin scratches on her face with some light bleeding. The scratching itself is not shown, but the aftermath is. SPOILERS: The ghost is described to be missing an eye and have blood and scratches on their face, but they're never shown in detail.
