A suburban couple's ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Esme and her sisters were collared in childhood and made to follow orders, if they didn't, they were electrocuted repeatedly. Two of them died this way. S2E12: Clarice reveals her foster father used to beat her and her best friend, a few flashbacks are shown of them being afraid of him, no abuse is shown on screen
S1E2 a mutant has what is for all intents and purposes depicted as a seizure, that is pretty violent and interacts with her powers in a dangerous way, it's the main focus of the episode
Shock collars are used on captive mutants. If they try to use their powers they are electrocuted. S2E4: Caitlin tortures a mutant hacker by bringing him down off his drug high very quickly, then offers him more drugs to help them and gets him high again S2E6: Children are held captive and forced to obey orders or they are shocked through their collars S2E10: Thunderbird is taken prisoner by the Purifiers and tortured (loud music headphones [he has super hearing]), he is also shot point blank three times with a shotgun
S1E10: Yes and no. Two people are forced by a telepathic mutant to shoot themselves. Involuntary suicide. S2E6: One of the mutants admits they attempted suicide when their powers first manifested
